The design was introduced as an open standard under the IEEE 287 Precision Connector Standards Committee.

2.92 mm connectors, also known as K series, SMK or K type, are designed to provide the connector performance up to 40 GHz .The 2.92 mm male connector is designed with a shorter center contact in order to prevent the damage happened while mating. The 2.92 mm connectors are also inter-mate compatible with SMA and 3.5 mm coaxial connectors.
Applications: Mainly used in high-frequency radio frequency fields, such as microwave communications, satellite communications, high-frequency test and measurement systems, and other fields with higher performance requirements.
